After your family has wolfed down that delicious pizza, or pigged out on the roast you had prepared for them, it was your job to wipe off the table especially if there were any crumbs that were left behind. You also have a regular routine of dusting all of the surfaces around your house. Now comes the time when you have to sweep the floor. This may seem to you that the housecleaning chores have been put upon your shoulders. Haven’t you hear it said that many hands make light work? If you have children in your household, give them each some cleaning tasks that must be performed each week. Yet, if you want to keep rats, cockroaches and other vermin from taking up residence in your house you are going to need more than simply a mop, towel and a feather duster. How and why are you going to get the upper hand on your pest situation? Read on!

What You Can’t See Won’t Hurt You?

All of the leftover food has been put neatly in the refrigerator and the trash has been taken out. What does it matter if a few roaches are creeping along the walls? If you had x-ray vision, perhaps you could see some mice playing in the space behind your wall. Did you realize that typhus, salmonella and meningitis are only a few of the diseases that are carried around by rats? Gastrointestinal complications, vomiting and being admitted to the hospital can all come from the bacteria that are found on the cockroach’s feet, but they are also found in this insect’s stomach which it uses for digestion.

Did you know that asthma attacks can be triggered by the allergens that are carried by roaches? Behind this bug’s wings dysentery, the polio virus, cholera, leprosy and tuberculosis may be lurking. Another pesky little insect that can be very annoying is the housefly. Doctors suspect that anthrax, diarrhea, the yaws, Chlamydia and parasitic worms that the fly can bring are worse.

Holistic Pest Prevention

In most houses, a pest prevention system can be built with the use of traps, poisons and getting rid of the nesting sites. When picking out the right poison, you want to make sure that the rest of the house is taken into consideration. Make sure that you inform the rest of the household about the poisoned baits that you have set around the house and make sure that young children will not be able to have access to them. You must not leave any poison on the floor where an infant may crawl to it or which a dog may mistake it as food. Place the poison on the crevices which are not accessible to pets and small children, but which are the likely places where vermin hang out.

Insect sprays are effective against flies, roaches and mosquitoes. However, you must purchase a product that constantly upgrades its formulation. If a cockroach survives ingesting a certain formula then all of its offspring will also be resistant to that particular poison. You must buy from a manufacturer that knows all too well the uncanny mutational capabilities of insects.

Never Too Careful

Have you ever heard the axiom that cleanliness is next to Godliness? If you go around your house and check out what kind of creatures are taking up residence in your home out of the filth that is not cleaned, then you are going to be in big trouble. Yes, you are going to have to keep taking out the trash but you are going to have to make sure that the top of the trash can is tightly sealed. Check around the house to see if you have any holes, cracks and crevices that may have rats or mice as their occupants. Remove all stagnant water so that mosquitoes will not be swarming around. In order to use traps effectively, then put them around the grounds that pests use for breeding and in places where pest food may be available such as your trash cans. When it comes down to your health and proper pest control, you can never be too careful.
