<p>What is depleted uranium? Depleted uranium is a waste byproduct from producing fuel for nuclear reactors and atomic bombs. The material used in civil and nuclear military industry is uranium U-235.</p>
<p>Since this isotope is found in very low proportions in nature, the uranium ore has to be enriched, i.e., its proportion of the U-235 isotope has to be industrially increased.</p>
<p>This process produces a large amount of radioactive depleted uranium waste, thus named because it is mainly formed by the other non-fissionable uranium isotope, U-238 and a minimum proportion of U-235.</p>

<p>American military industry has been using depleted uranium to coat conventional weaponry (artillery, tanks and aircraft) since 1977, to protect its own tanks, as a counterweight in aircraft and Tomahawk missiles and as a component for navigation instruments.</p>
<p>This is because of depleted uranium having characteristics making it highly attractive for military technology: firstly, it is extremely dense and heavy (1 cm3 weighs almost 19 grams), such that projectiles with a depleted uranium head can penetrate the armored steel of military vehicles and buildings.</p>
<p>The weapon has another characteristic as well; it is a spontaneous pyrophoric material, i.e., it inflames when reaching its target generating such heat that it explodes. After more than 50 years producing atomic weapons and nuclear energy, the USA has 500,000 tons of depleted uranium stored, according to official data.</p>
<p>Depleted uranium is radioactive and has an average lifetime of 4.5 billion years. This is why such waste has to be stored safely for an indefinite period of time, an extremely costly procedure.</p>

<p>In order to save money and empty their tanks, the Department of Defense and Energy assigns depleted uranium free of charge to national and foreign armament companies. When a projectile hits a target, 70% of its depleted uranium burns and oxidizes, bursting into highly toxic, radioactive micro particles.</p>
<p>A 1995 technical report issued by the Army indicates that &#8220;if depleted uranium enters the body, it has the potentiality of causing serious medical consequences. The associated risk is both chemical and radiological.&#8221;</p>
<p>Deposited in the lungs or kidneys, uranium 238 and products from its decay (thorium 234, protactinium and other uranium isotopes) give off alpha and beta radiations which cause cell death and genetic mutations causing cancer in exposed individuals and genetic abnormalities in their descendants over the years.</p>
<p>You see the term &#8220;depleted&#8221; refers to the removal of uranium-235, but the process for its removal is called &#8220;enrichment.&#8221; It is enrichment because what remains is uranium-238, a highly potent radioactive carcinogen that emits alpha particles.</p>

Enriched uranium weaponry is illegal under the terms and conditions of the Geneva Convention. Under the Geneva Convention, it is illegal to leave harmful materials on a battlefield after the conflict has ceased.</p>
<p>This nuclear war is in violation of the Geneva Convention. It causes congenital malformations, babies born with one eye, no arms, or no brain. And it not only affects Iraqi civilians, it affects American veterans who excrete it in their urine and semen a decade later.</p>

<p>The Power 90 Extreme program is developed by Tony Horton and the Beachbody company. <p>The video is made to be easy to follow along with. You will have Tony as your main guide and your main motivator, but there are also several other backup exercisers to watch as well. It is a good idea to keep your eye on the people in the background, since they will demonstrate moves at a lower level of intensity and also with alternative equipment.</p>
<p>Although the workouts are pretty intense, they are at least easy to follow along with. On the disc, you will see the main trainer and motivator, which is Tony Horton himself. Behind Tony are a few background exercisers. Also, when subjects add nuts to their diet, it did NOT cause weight gain The researchers believe that nuts help fill you up (thanks to the fiber) and it&#8217;s possible that not all of the calories from nuts are absorbed into your body. Some research also found that it was easier for people to stick to a diet when nuts were in their meal plan. More research has also shown that subjects lost more fat mass when they substituted almonds for complex carbohydrates in their diet.</p>
<p>Eggstatic ABout Eggs! - Researchers from Louisiana State University in the U.S. looked at the eating habits of a group of overweight and obese women. The women, who were following a low-fat diet, were asked to eat either two eggs a day for breakfast, or have a bagel. The two meals contained the same number of calories and weighed roughly the same amount. However, after eight weeks of breakfasting, the slimmers who had eaten eggs had lost the most weight. As well as shedding 65 per cent more pounds than the bagel eaters, they had lost almost twice as many inches from their waistline. Previous research showed that those who ate eggs for breakfast felt fuller for longer than those who had a bagel and cheese. As a result, they ate less during the rest of the day. It is not completely clear why eggs are so good at making us feel full but it is thought their high protein content could play a large part. Researcher Dr Nikhil Dhurandhar, an obesity expert, said: &#8220;The resulting decrease in energy consumption lasted for at least 24 hours after the egg breakfast.&#8221;</p>
<p>Eat More Mushrooms! - In another study, it was found that volunteers who had mushrooms rather than meat in four otherwise identical meals a week shed almost 13lbs (6kg) over five weeks, with one losing 1.5 stone (9.5kg). The study also found that one man and nine women, aged between 25 and 61, shed a total of 127lbs (57.6kg) over the course of the trial. In another recent trial, Margaret Hill, a 25-year-old mother-of-two from Dagenham in Essex, went from 13st 6lbs to 11st 1lb. &#8220;I was amazed by my weight loss - it&#8217;s the most I have ever managed to lose. Yoghurt eaters also lost 81 per cent more fat in the stomach area than non-yoghurt eaters. They were also about twice as effective at maintaining lean muscle mass. Yoghurt is a perfect accompaniment to many meat based dishes, such as casseroles, chillis and curries and helps to lower the fat density of the meal, thus filling you up for fewer calories</p>
<p>Drink Your Milk! - In a recent study, australian scientists found overweight people who downed about 2 1/2 cups of skim milk in the morning consumed 8.5 percent fewer calories at an all-you-can-eat lunch spread than people who drank the same amount of fruit juice. This is due to the protein content of milk.</p>
<p>Be Beautiful With Beans - Scientists found that people who consumed beans were 23 percent less likely to have large waists than those who said they never ate them. Legumes are a super weight loss foods as they are very low energy dense protein foods, contributing filling protein, without the fat calories of many meat foods, such as lamb, bacon and mince. They are rich in belly-filling fiber without being high in calories, thus filling you up for very few calories.</p>
<p>Eat More Apples! - Penn State researchers discovered that people who ate a large apple 15 minutes before lunch took in 187 fewer calories during lunch than those who didn&#8217;t snack beforehand. (The apples had around 128 calories.) So thats a saving of 59 calories per meal. Add that up over three meals a day and 5 days a week and thats a saving of 180 calories a day. What&#8217;s more, they reported feeling fuller afterward, too. The fruit is loaded with belly-filling fiber, but there&#8217;s another reason apples help you feel full: They require lots of chewing, which can make you think you&#8217;re eating more than you really are, says study author Julie Obbagy, Ph.D. I personally find that finishing a meal with an apple stops me from going back for more (and more) and is the perfect substitute for high calorie snacks, such as chocolate, crisps and biscuits. They give you a sweetness fix, fill you up and bust cravings for comparatively very few calories.</p>
